WORK AREA
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, may result in
minor or moderate injury.
Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered work benches and dark work
areas may cause accidents or injury.
CAUTION used without the safety alert symbol
indicates a potentially hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, may result in property damage.
Do not operate power tools in explosive areas, such as in the presence of
flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite
the dust or fumes.
NOTE provides additional information that is useful
for proper use and maintenance of this tool. If a
NOTE is indicated make sure it is fully understood.
Keep bystanders, children and visitors away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
People with electronic devices, such as pacemakers, should consult their
physician(s) before using this product. Operation of electrical equipment in
close proximity to a heart pacemaker could cause interference or failure of
the pacemaker.
Double insulated tools are equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is
wider than the other.) This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If
the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change the
plug in any way. Double insulation eliminates the need for the three wire
grounded power cord and grounded power supply system.
WARNING: Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and
other construction activities contains chemicals known to the State of California
to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges
and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is
grounded.
Some examples of these chemicals are:
• Lead from lead-based paints.
• Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products,
and arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.
Don’t expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power
tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type
of work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated
area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as dust masks that are
specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.
Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to carry the tool or pull the plug
from an outlet. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving
parts. Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords increase the risk
of electric shock.
WARNING: Handling the power cord on this product may expose you to lead, a
chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or
other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.
When operating the tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked “W-
A” or “W.”These cords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk of elec-
tric shock.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any
other condition that may affect the tool’s operation. If damaged, have the tool
serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
PERSONAL SAFETY
Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model.
Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may create a risk of injury when used
on another tool.
Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operat-
ing a power tool. Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools
may result in serious personal injury.
SERVICE
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair.
Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes,
jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or
maintenance by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury.
When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions
in the Maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to
follow Maintenance Instructions may create a risk of shock or injury.
Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch is off before plugging in. Carrying
tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in tools that have the switch on invites
accidents.
Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the power tool “ON”.
A wrench or a key that is left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may
result in personal injury.
SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES AND/OR SYMBOLS
Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the
cutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Contact with a “live” wire will also make
exposed metal parts of the tool “live” and shock the operator.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper foot-
ing and balance enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situa-
tions.
IMPORTANT SAFETY RULES FOR HEAT GUNS
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid safe-
ty shoes, hard hat or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions.
This heat gun produces temperatures high enough to ignite combustible
material. DO NOT use around flammable liquids and gases or easily com-
bustible matter such as leaves, paper or dry grass.
TOOL USE AND CARE
Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a
stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and
may lead to loss of control.
NEVER use this heat gun as a hair dryer.
This heat gun can cause severe burns and/or poisoning from exposure to toxic
fumes if not used properly. Read all safety instructions before use.
Do not force tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool will
do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed.
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
• Always disconnect the heat gun when not in use.
Do not use the tool if the power switch does not turn it “ON” or “OFF”. Any tool that
cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
• Keep out of reach of children.
Disconnect the power cord plug from the power source before making any
adjustments, changing accessories or storing the tool. Such preventive safety
measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
• Store in a dry location.
• Make sure the work area is clean and free from clutter.
• Maintain proper footing and balance at all times. Do not overreach. If using a
ladder, make sure it is stable and set up on a sturdy surface. Overreaching while
on a ladder can lead to dangerous falls.
Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are
dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained
tools with a sharp cutting edge are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
• Stay away from power lines.
• Secure small work pieces before using heat gun to prevent accidental slippage.
5
• Work in one room at a time. Furnishings should be removed or placed in the
center of the room and covered. Work areas should be sealed off from the rest
of the dwelling by sealing doorways with drop cloths.
• Stay alert. Never use this tool if you are drowsy or under the influence of drugs
or alcohol.
ELECTRICAL HAZARDS
• Never disassemble the heat gun. All repairs should be made by qualified service
personnel.
• Children, pregnant or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers should not
be present in the work area until the work is done and all clean up is complete.
• Wear a dust respirator mask or a dual filter (dust and fume) respirator mask
which has been approved by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA), the National Institute of Safety and Health (NIOSH), or the United
States Bureau of Mines. These masks and replaceable filters are readily avail-
able at major hardware stores. Be sure the mask fits. Beards and facial hair may
keep masks from sealing properly. Change filters often. DISPOSABLE PAPER
MASKS ARE NOT ADEQUATE.
• Keep heat gun away from rain, snow and other damp environments.
• While working, avoid making contact with grounded surfaces such as radiators,
pipes, or aluminum ladders. Touching a grounded object while working with a
power tool could lead to electric shock.
• Inspect the cord for wear or damage regularly. Keep away from oil, heat and
sharp edges. Never yank the cord to disconnect it from the outlet. Do not carry
the heat gun by the cord.
• Use caution when operating the heat gun. Keep the heat gun moving as
excessive heat will generate fumes which can be inhaled by the operator.
• If an extension cord is necessary, be sure it is rated for outdoor use. Never use
a damaged extension cord. Replace it immediately.
• Keep food and drink out of the work area. Wash hands, arms and face and rinse
mouth before eating or drinking. Do not smoke or chew gum or tobacco in the
work area.
Extreme care should be taken when stripping paint. The
peelings, residue and vapors of paint may contain lead, which is poisonous.
Any pre-1977 paint may contain lead and paint applied to homes prior to 1950
is likely to contain lead. Once deposited on surfaces, hand to mouth contact can
result in the ingestion of lead. Exposure to even low levels of lead can cause
irreversible brain and nervous system damage; young and unborn children are
particularly vulnerable.
• Clean up all removed paint and dust by wet mopping the floors. Use a wet cloth
to clean all walls, sills and any other surface where paint or dust is clinging. DO
NOT SWEEP, DRY DUST OR VACUUM. Use a high phosphate detergent or
trisodium phosphate (TSP) to wash and mop areas.
• At the end of each work session put the paint chips and debris in a double
plastic bag, close it with tape or twist ties and dispose of properly.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Before beginning any paint removal process you should determine whether the
paint you are removing contains lead. This can be done by your local health depart-
ment or by a professional who uses a paint analyzer to check the lead content of the
paint to be removed. LEAD-BASED PAINT SHOULD ONLY BE REMOVED BY A
PROFESSIONAL AND SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED USING A HEAT GUN.
• Remove protective clothing and work shoes in the work area to avoid carrying
dust into the rest of the dwelling. Wash work clothes separately. Wipe shoes off
with a wet rag that is then washed with the work clothes. Wash hair and body
thoroughly with soap and water.
PERSONS REMOVING PAINT SHOULD FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES:
• Move the work piece outdoors. If this is not possible, keep the work area well-
ventilated. Open the windows and put an exhaust fan in one of them. Be sure
the fan is moving the air from inside to outside.
• Remove or cover any carpets, rugs, furniture, clothing, cooking utensils and air ducts.
• Place drop cloths in the work area to catch any paint chips or peelings. Wear
protective clothing such as extra work shirts, overalls and hats.

ATTACHING/REMOVING NOZZLE
• Push the On/Off switch down for low
heat (position I), up for high heat
(position II).
ATTACHING A NOZZLE:
1. Let the heat gun cool. (The heat gun
will cool faster if left in an upright
position.)
• Note: The first time the heat gun is
used, you may see smoke coming from
the inside of the unit. This is normal. As
soon as manufacturing oils have burned
off, the smoke should disappear quickly.
2. Center the nozzle over the end of the
heat gun and press down until the
nozzle is firmly attached.
REMOVING A NOZZLE:
1. Let the heat gun cool. (The heat gun
will cool faster if left in an upright
position.)
TIPS FOR USING THE HEAT GUN
2. Pull nozzle off the end of the gun.
If you do not hear the fan motor start after pushing the
switch, turn off the heat gun immediately. Running the heat gun without the fan
will burn out the heating element.
CHANGING BLADES
CHANGING SCRAPER BLADES:
1. Unscrew the nut at the end of
the tool.
• Hidden areas such as behind walls, ceilings, floors, soffit boards and other pan-
els may contain flammable materials that could be ignited by the heat gun when
working in these locations. The ignition of these materials may not be readily
apparent and could result in property damage and injury to persons. When
working in these locations, keep the heat gun moving in a back-and-forth
motion. Lingering or pausing in one spot could ignite the panel or the material
behind it.
2. Push off the old blade.
3. Push on the new blade.
4. Thread the nut onto the handle
and tighten.
• Never use a heat gun if flammable materials are present in the work area.
• Never use near metal pipes or where cracks are present in the surface being
heated. Metal or cracks may allow heat to ignite hidden combustible material.
OPERATING THE HEAT GUN
• The nozzle of the heat gun becomes very hot while in use. Never let the hot
nozzle touch flammable material. After use, allow the heat gun to cool on a flat,
noncombustible surface with the nozzle pointing away from any surrounding
material.
Read all warnings and safety precautions before use. This
heat gun creates an extremely high temperature blast of air which can ignite
flammable materials or burn skin or hair. Never point this heat gun at yourself
or another person.
• Note: The heat gun will cool faster if left in an upright position. Make sure the nozzle
has cooled before storage. Never leave the heat gun plugged in when not in use.
• Use caution when working around windows. Protect the glass from direct heat.
11
12
HEAT GUN USES
Nozzle and scraper blades will become extremely hot dur-
ing use. Do not touch nozzle or scraper blades with your bare hands or severe
burns will result. Always wear gloves when heat gun is in use.
This heat gun is perfect for any application requiring intense heat such as:
Removing paint or putty
Bending plastic pipes
Heating shrink wrap film
Loosening rusted metal parts, such as nuts and bolts
Softening adhesive on floor tiles
STRIPPING PAINT
• Move the heat gun forward slowly at an angle to the surface you are stripping.
This will cause the paint to soften.
• Always keep the nozzle pointing in the direction you are moving.
SUGGESTED TEMPERATURE SETTINGS
• Follow behind the heat gun with the scraper, carefully removing the softened
paint. Be sure to keep out of the way of the hot air from the nozzle.
Always start a project with the heat gun at the lowest temperature to see how the
object being heated will react, then increase the temperature if necessary.
• If the surface to be stripped has multiple layers of paint, allow the surface to
heat thoroughly and remove all the layers at once.
HEAT
SETTING
• Use a soft wire brush for surfaces too delicate for the scraper blade.
USAGE
NOZZLE ATTACHMENT
• Mineral paints (porcelain, cement paint) will not soften with heat and must be
removed by another method.
